On TikTok, a live has to stop a stranger mid-scroll. On Shopee, the viewer opened a shopping app. That one difference changes almost everything about how to sell live on Shopee Live: who shows up, what the host is for, and which buttons matter. Shopee's own seller guide says the Shopee Live page shows lives that Shopee recommends and lives from shops a viewer already follows — so a brand that copies its TikTok routine onto Shopee often ends up performing to an empty room.
This is the operator's guide to a first Shopee Live in Thailand: what has to be in place before you go live, the phone and computer setups, how to pace the session, how vouchers and Shopee Coins differ, and what to read in the report afterwards. It is written by a Bangkok live team certified as a Shopee Premium Enabler.
01. What Shopee Live is, and how it differs from TikTok LIVE
Shopee Live is the livestream feature inside the Shopee app. A shop presents products on camera, viewers ask questions in chat, and they buy from the orange bag without leaving the stream — the video shrinks to a small window while they check out. It is live commerce in its most transactional form.
| Shopee Live | TikTok LIVE | |
|---|---|---|
| Why the viewer is there | To shop — they opened a marketplace app | To be entertained — the live appeared in a feed |
| How viewers find you | Follower notifications, Shopee's recommendations, campaign and coin tabs, your own promotion | The For You feed, plus paid delivery such as GMV Max |
| Main selling levers | Vouchers, Shopee Coins, live-only prices | The host's hook, pinned products, flash deals |
| The host's first job | Answer buying questions and close | Hold attention long enough to pitch |
On TikTok you earn the viewer. On Shopee you convert the shopper.
02. Before the first live: what has to be in place
Access to the Shopee Live menu
You need a Shopee shop with products listed and an account in good standing. Whether the Shopee Live menu is open on a given account, and any conditions attached to it, is decided by Shopee and changes over time, so we do not print thresholds here. Open the app, go to the Me tab and look for Shopee Live; if it is missing, check Shopee's Seller Education Hub for the current requirements in the week you plan to start, not on the day.
Read the rules in the same sitting. Shopee runs a penalty-point system for live streams, and its seller guide lists the most common reasons lives are suspended: steering buyers to pay outside Shopee, counterfeit goods, a camera pointed at products with nobody moving, abusive language and inappropriate dress.
Products and live prices: the orange bag
Everything a viewer can buy sits in the orange bag. Three details from Shopee's guide shape the preparation:
- Discounts are built before the live. Product promotions and vouchers are created in Marketing Centre first; the live only switches them on.
- The order of the bag is fixed once you start. Products added mid-live go to the bottom of the list, so arrange the bag in rundown order beforehand.
- A live-only price is its own tool. You can set a special price and a promotion stock for viewers, with an optional countdown. It ends when that stock sells out or when the live ends, whichever comes first.
Shopee currently lets a live carry up to 200 products. That is a ceiling, not a target: a bag the host cannot cover in one session just buries the products that matter.
03. Minimum equipment: phone or computer
Shopee supports two routes: the Shopee app on a phone, and Shopee Live on a computer using external broadcast software such as OBS, vMix or Wirecast.
- Phone. One phone on a tripod, a light in front of the host, a quiet room and stable Wi-Fi. Switch on flight mode with Wi-Fi so a call cannot interrupt the stream. A second phone logged in as a viewer shows you what buyers actually see. This is enough for a first live.
- Computer with OBS. Adds multiple cameras, a live frame with the headline and voucher badges, and proper microphones. It also adds jobs: someone has to run the picture while someone else runs the bag, the vouchers and the chat. Shopee's guide singles out resolution and bitrate as the two settings that decide how sharp the picture looks.
The trade-offs are the ones we describe in our guide to running TikTok LIVE through OBS: a better picture, and more moving parts. Move to a computer when the phone is what is holding the live back, not before.
04. Script and pacing during the live
Shopee suggests a session of at least 30 minutes covering at least five products. Inside that, the rundown does the work: the minute-by-minute plan of which product is on, which offer is open and what the host says.
- Open with the offer, not the greeting. Viewers arrive throughout the session, so repeat today's deal every few minutes.
- One product on screen at a time. The Show button puts a single product card on the stream. Match it to what the host is holding, and change it when the host moves on.
- Demonstrate, then answer. Shopee viewers ask buying questions: size, shade, delivery, authenticity. Read the comment aloud and answer by name.
- Time the vouchers. Release a 30-second voucher when the room is fullest, not at a fixed minute. Pin a comment with the terms so late arrivals can read them.
- Use the built-in games sparingly. Polls and Shopee's fastest-finger giveaway lift interaction, and each one should lead back to a product.
- Close with the next live. Ask for the follow and say when you are back. Followers are the people who get notified next time.
05. Vouchers, Coins Cashback and Coins Reward: which does what
These three are mixed up constantly, and they do different jobs. Together, vouchers and coins are the core levers of selling on a marketplace.
| Tool | What the buyer gets | When they feel it | Best used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discount voucher | Money off at checkout | Now, on this order | Closing the sale during the live |
| Coins Cashback voucher | Shopee Coins returned after the purchase | On a later order | Bringing the buyer back to buy again |
| Coins Reward in the live | Coins for watching, paid from a coin budget the seller sets | While they watch | Pulling viewers into the room and keeping them there |
Within vouchers, Shopee separates a 30-second voucher, which appears briefly and disappears once its quota is claimed, from a permanent voucher that stays for the whole live. A single code can be one or the other, not both, so decide in advance which codes play which role. A Follow Prize voucher can also be shown to new viewers a few seconds after they enter, in exchange for a follow.
Two operating cautions. Make sure every discount and voucher stays valid until the live ends: Shopee says a live whose promotion expires early is removed from the campaign tab it joined. And keep the live frame honest. A badge that advertises a voucher the bag no longer offers reads as a broken promise.
An empty room is usually a traffic problem, not a host problem
Because the Shopee Live page shows recommended lives and lives from followed shops, a new shop's first sessions are quiet by design. The fix sits upstream of the stream: build followers, schedule the live in advance so buyers can set a reminder, announce it on the shop page and on LINE and social channels, switch on Coins Reward so the live appears under the coins tab, and register for Shopee Live campaigns when Shopee invites the shop.
06. After the live: what to read in the report
Shopee shows live insights during the stream and in more detail on a computer. Read four numbers first:
- GMV and orders. What the session sold.
- Concurrent viewers (CCU). How full the room was at each moment. One catch from Shopee's own FAQ: the count includes the streamer, so a CCU of 1 means nobody was watching.
- Product click rate. How many viewers tapped a product. A full room with few clicks points at the presentation or the offer.
- Conversion rate. The share of viewers who bought. Plenty of clicks with few orders points at price, shipping or stock.
Two reading notes. The product list in the report counts only items in the orange bag, while the overall figures also include products viewers opened in the shop during the live, so the two will not match. And the numbers keep settling for a short while after the stream ends; take the screenshot for the report later, not at the moment you stop.
Keep the recording as well. Shopee can ask for the live replay as evidence in a refund dispute, and a replay can be shown on the shop page for buyers who missed the session.
07. Do it yourself, or hire a team?
A first Shopee Live needs a phone, a plan and someone comfortable on camera. Do it yourself if you stream occasionally, know the products better than anyone and can spare the preparation time. The case for hiring starts when the live becomes a schedule: several sessions a week, campaign days such as 10.10 and 11.11, a bag that changes every session, and numbers someone has to report. At that point the work is four jobs — host, picture, bag and vouchers, chat — and one person doing all four does each of them late.
There are two ways to hire. Room Operation: you bring your own host, and the studio provides the room, the broadcast system and the crew. Or full live production, which adds a trained MC. Either way, keep the shop account, the vouchers and the data in the brand's name, and give the team the access it needs rather than the login.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need permission to go live on Shopee?
It depends on the account. You need a Shopee shop with products listed, an account in good standing, and the Shopee Live menu available under the Me tab in the app. Shopee decides which accounts can stream and changes the conditions from time to time, so check the current requirements in Shopee's Seller Education Hub in the week you plan to start rather than relying on a figure from a blog.
What equipment do you need for Shopee Live, and can you stream from a phone?
Yes, a phone is enough to start. Use one phone on a tripod, a light in front of the host, a quiet room and stable Wi-Fi, with flight mode on so calls cannot interrupt the stream, and a second phone to watch as a viewer. Shopee also supports streaming from a computer with broadcast software such as OBS, which adds multiple cameras, a live frame and better audio, but it needs a second person to run the products, vouchers and chat.
Why does nobody watch my Shopee Live, and how do you fix it?
The Shopee Live page mainly shows lives that Shopee recommends and lives from shops the viewer already follows, so a new shop's first sessions are often quiet. Build followers first, schedule the live in advance so buyers can set a reminder, and announce it on the shop page and your own channels. Give viewers a reason to come, such as a live-only price, a voucher or Coins Reward, and join Shopee Live campaigns when the shop is invited. Then stream at a regular time, because a consistent slot is easier for followers to return to.
What is the difference between Coins Cashback and a voucher in a Shopee live?
A discount voucher takes money off the order at checkout, so it helps close the sale during the live. A Coins Cashback voucher gives the buyer Shopee Coins after the purchase, which they spend on a later order, so it works on repeat buying. Coins Reward is a third tool: viewers collect coins for watching the live, paid from a coin budget the seller sets, and it is used to draw viewers in and keep them watching.
If you have no time to go live yourself, is it worth hiring a Shopee live company?
It is worth it when the live is a schedule rather than an experiment: several sessions a week, campaign days, and results someone has to report. A live team splits the work across a host, a room operator and someone running products, vouchers and chat, which one person cannot do well at once. Choose a team certified by the platform, keep the shop account and data in the brand's name, and start with a short trial block before committing. Limitless Studio is a certified Shopee Premium Enabler in Bangkok and offers both room operation and full live production.
